Goodbye Spongebob! (Thrifty Find)

While my daughter and I were out today we scored a free small stand. Yes, it is Spongebob Squarepants themed. But not for long! I cleaned it all off and got it ready to paint.

I began with the top since I needed to get rid of his face looking at me. I opened all my windows and had fans running but the paint I used did not have a strong smell anyway. It was just simple white paint you would use on an apartment wall. Maybe not for furniture but it worked! After three coats I no longer saw his face and could move on.

My daughter saw me painting the top and asked to join in. She was a great help and enjoyed it a lot! So away went the pineapple sides!
I would have kept the inside yellow but there were too many crayon marks and other marks I could not remove, even with my Magic Eraser. So, might as well paint the inside too!

If she had her way, the whole thing would have ended up with ten or more coats as she kept wanting to paint. I will be covering the "rope" drawer handle and the drawer itself sticks a little when opening due to a missing "wheel". I am fine with its flaws given it was free. Later on I might be able to tweak it more. Besides it gives character, right?

Once completed I was very happy with the results! It will be a perfect stand in my room to hold a small TV.

When you are out and about and see something "ugly" think of its potential. As they say, "Don't judge a book by its cover".
